Robert ‘Bobby’ Davis, 80, of Fredericksburg, VA, peacefully left his earthly home on November 14, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Laura Davis, and his son Robert Neal Davis II. In addition he said farewell to his parent Frank and Gawena Davis, and four siblings Marie A. Davis, Mary Ellen Allen, Myrteen Davis, and Frank Davis Jr.
He is survived by one sister, Ruth Winston of Warsaw, VA, two daughters, Lynn Gordon (Rex )of Montross and Susan Davis of Statesville, NC. In addition he leaves three grandchildren, Kimberly Thorne (Brad), Sarah Gordon (Josh) and Matthew Davis, as well as two great grandchildren, Aiden Thorne and Ava Jones
Bobby had a long and distinguished career with and retired from the Smithsonian Institute. He raised his family in Silver Spring, MD and retired with his wife, Laura ,to Fredericksburg, VA . He loved spending time at his home place on Jackson Creek, sharing good times with his nephew Stanley Allen and spending as much time as possible with his children, grand children and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel with Pastor V. Wade Wilkins officiating. Interment will be in Yeocomico Episcopal Cemetery. Pallbearers are Donnie Smith, Johnny Thrift, Billy Sydnor, Eddie Bevans and Page Westman.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Welch Funeral Home, Montross, VA
