William E. Sanford, Jr., 85, of Lottsburg, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016.
Mr. Sanford was the husband of Barbara H. “Bobbie” Sanford; a self employed farmer and real estate developer; an active lifetime member and Trustee of Gibeon Baptist Church, having also served as Sunday School Superintendant and Secretary; former Member and Chairman of the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors; former President Callao P.T.A.; former Director, Southern States Grain Marketing, Richmond; former President Northumberland-Lancaster Farm Bureau; former Chairman Northumberland County A.S.C.S. County Committee; member of the Scottish Rite; Past President Northern Neck Shrine Club; Past Trustee of Acca Temple Richmond; Past Patron Betty Lewis Chapter #107 O.E.S.; First President, Virginia Soybean Commission; former member of the Bank of Northumberland Board of Directors; member of Westmoreland Masonic Lodge #212; former member of Northumberland County Lions Club; member of Callao Moose Lodge; former member of Callao Ruritan Club; and a former member of Northumberland Wetlands Board.
William is survived by his wife Bobbie; son, William “Bill” Sanford, III and wife Kathy of Heathsville; daughter, Melanie Sanford Peugh of Ashland; four grandchildren: Derek Jordan Sanford, Ryan Blake Sanford, Riley Hudson Sanford, and Chad Wesley Rice; sister, Doris Sanford Grotz and brother in law, Clifford Grotz, niece, Donna Roby Smith, and nephew, David Howard Roby.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Gibeon Baptist Church, with Interment in the Church cemetery.
Lewis Reynolds, David Roby along with William’s four grandsons, Derrick, Ryan, Riley, and Chad, will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are John Burton, George D. English, Ralph Brann, Warren Haynie, Leslie Kildutt, Gene Martin, Larry Thrift, Edelyn Dawson, and Ira B. Fallin.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Welch Funeral Home, 10300 Richmond Road, Warsaw, VA 22572.
