Eugene Robert Elsey, age 92, of South Boston, Virginia, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016. He was born in Springfield, Missouri on May 19, 1923 to Harry B. and Daisy C. Elsey.
Survivors include his wife, Louise P. Elsey; one sister, Margaret Leapley; eight step-children, Ann L. Spicer (Bob), Bonnie M. Lloyd (Clyde), Pamela H. Allison (Chris Wilkins), William Edwards (Barbara), James Edwards (Barbara), Louise Layne (Charlie), Joyce Bartz (Donald), and Doris Clark; one special granddaughter, Shannon Frye (Jason); thirty-seven step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his former wife of thirty-five years, Viola Edwards Elsey and one brother, William Elsey.
Gene’s zest for life and love for people brought a great deal of joy to those who were privileged to know him. He took great pride in his naval military service to his country and his role at step-father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel in Warsaw.
